Meet Lisa Carcaci! As a Meeting Event Manager (MEM) on the Maritz team with many years of experience in the events industry, Lisa is stepping up to lead our Human Trafficking Awareness committee. We asked her to share a few thoughts on why she felt moved to lead this important committee.
Why did you want to become a chair of the Human Trafficking Awareness committee at Maritz?
I first learned of human trafficking through a visit to the ECPAT booth at the IMEX America trade show many years ago and it really stayed with me. I continued learning more through my involvement with Meeting Planners International (MPI) and felt it important to bring awareness to my local MPI chapter through their Anti-Human Trafficking initiatives. When I joined Maritz, I was seeking opportunities to connect with the organization as a whole outside of my role as a MEM, so I joined this committee. When I was recently offered the opportunity to assume the role of Chair, I felt it was the next step on my path in making a difference in this fight. I am honored to be a part of this committee and look forward to being a part of solution in fighting this horrific crime.
What do you most want to accomplish this year? Or next year?
Maritz continues to drive progress in this fight through our events and through our company efforts with CSR and sponsorships. This year, we hope to accelerate efforts and create impact by increasing awareness through more employee education. We are launching communication campaigns, training and activations. We are also looking at additional partnership opportunities within our network of suppliers to have greater impact worldwide.
What has been your favorite moment/experience so far?
My favorite experience so far is seeing the dedication, creative initiatives and the passion from the original founding team. Their hard work and strong desire to bring awareness to Human Trafficking motivated me to become more involved. The groundwork they have laid is paving the way for our organization to make a difference.
What are some of the initiatives planned?
We have amazing efforts in progress! We are partnering with The Exchange Initiative to promote the TraffickCam App in our industry and promoting The CODE to our industry partners. We are also adding Human Trafficking Awareness activations at our brand events, training our travel directors during the onboarding process and adding CSR activations for our team. We will be continuing our partnership with The Covering House through the Annual Gala and the Covering House Challenge.
We’ll continue to share more about the initiatives that Lisa and the committee implement, so stay tuned for these exciting updates. Thanks to Lisa for her time and dedication to lead this important mission.
